I guess you can say this is thinking big

Though I'm still not sure if even a billion would be sufficient to do anything like what he's proposing to do – making a proper computermodel of the brain.

Henry Markram wants €1 billion to model the entire human brain. Sceptics don't think he should get it.

  1. Having now spent a bit of time in neuroscience and having a rough idea of the current state of the art, I would just like to ask the following question: if we are not even able to completely understand how a single neuron exactly works, how can billions of (very) imperfect models, lumped together, produce anything reliable?
Besides, the claim of building simulation "at the molecular level" (for the whole brain!) is pure sci-fi, at least for anyone who has any idea if how the computational complexity of those models scales with the size of the system. I dearly hope that that billion will be better spent… the so-called "skeptic" are those who bothered to do a simple pen-and-paper feasibility assessment 😉
Oh, and the claim to reproduce consciousness (he managed to say that) is not even worth commenting upon. That man should be stopped… if he fails he will burn a billion euros, is he succedes he will create Skynet 😛

  2. my friend, ili need to isolate some bacterial dna from fish. then she invite me to go fishing together D: WHAT FISHING D:
